We have our first camper and a trip planned to Yellowstone, but not many miles traveled pulling it. We need something close to gain confidence in our ability to tow and park the camper. On a recent trip, my wife had childhood memories of visiting the Lost Sea. It is only a couple hours away with no major cities in the way. Perfect opportunity to experience the camper and return to a childhood memory.
Search for a Campground Close
A search provided a perfect solution, the Sweetwater KOA. The proximity to the interstate and friendly staff was an opportunity to learn. I had scheduled several KOA stops on the planned journey west. The staff was patient as this was only our third trip and the new owner jitters remained. My wife pulled into the site and I guided adjustments and more adjustments. We unhooked and finished setup again and again. I am sure we provided entertainment for anyone watching in the park. This part complete and the Honda Pilot is free.
The next day is a drive over to the the Lost Sea Adventure . As we arrive my father-in-law points to the Old Sweetwater Village saying that it was not here 40 years ago. The vertical depth is 140 feet covered in a 3/4 of a mile round trip hike. At the lake there is a glass-bottom boat ride. Other than this new addition it was still the same! A wonderful stop any time.
Previously, this trip would have meant a night in a nearby hotel. It now involves a hookup and a drive with our bed in tow. As we approach a new phase in our lives we begin a new way to travel and experience this great country we call home.
