A Proposal Worthy of Broadway
My daughter needed several shows for her college theater course so in her mind it needed to include a show in New York City.
As plans were coming together it also grew to include a proposal for my son.
Plane tickets in hand, we boarded the plane my wife and daughters pushing the soon to be fiancee ahead of my son and claiming to her girls get to choose the seats. As my son boarded he stopped to chat with the flight crew to explain his plan for the proposal while in the air and with smiles on their faces they were all in to assist him with his plan. They reached out to the pilot asking him to record where the proposal would occur for a fellow pilot.
One of my daughters had created a pocket in the door of a stuffed airplane for the engagement ring for her brother. The flight attendants would allow my son to do his proposal over the intercom so the pilot could provide exactly where the proposal occurred including the altitude. It was the perfect flight with crew participation and a memorable engagement proposal.
The next day included a visit to Broadway there in New York City and the show Wicked. The adventure began as we left the hotel to make our way about a mile through a neighborhood and we were glad for the family group. We rode the subway from our hotel to a stop near the show. Wicked was a flawless performance of a wonderfully staged show. After the show we made our way to Time Square for shopping and dinner. We road the subway back and returned to our hotel.
Tourists in New York City
The following day was packed schedule on the south end of Manhattan. It included the recently reopened Statue of Liberty and the 911 memorial. As we boarded the subway, the trains were moving slowly. We had a scheduled time for the boat ride to the statue and we were not going to make it. We unloaded at the next stop and packed 6 of us into a cab who had agreed to get us to the boat. The group unpacked from the back seat on time for the boat departure. We spent the morning at the always inspiring Statue of Liberty. Next we wound our way through lines waiting to see the 911 Memorial and the reflecting pools spending the afternoon viewing the recently completed memorial. An amazing end to an amazing day.
A final adventure was the exploration of Central Park in search of Balto. The children have seen the Balto movie and knew about the statue. On other visits we had seen it, but as always the statue is not a simple find. This search proved to be no less difficult. Pictures complete and it is back to shopping.
Another fun packed trip not soon forgotten. Memories and keepsakes now hang on the wall in a shadow box at my son’s house. Precious memories.
