Maine Adventure Begins

May 8, 2017 By Mark Chism Leave a Comment

I had always heard that Maine was a beautiful state. And that the national park was a must as we may never make it back. We also wanted to take the opportunity to spend time with our son in Boston, if possible. It turned into a 15-day journey of a life time with many planned and unplanned opportunities. Maine here we come.

In tandem with the in-laws the journey begins from Murfreesboro, TN to Follow The River RV Resort in Florence, IN. A nice level spot with access to Cincinnati, OH close by. Next there was a 2 day stop in Streetsboro, OH at the KOA there.

The planned event was a visit to Mentor, OH to see where my wife spent part of her childhood.

My father in-law worked on the Perry Nuclear Power Plant which we also drove by to see.

The unplanned adventure was a stop at Cuyahoga Valley National Park and a hike to one of the falls. We moved on for a stop in the Rochester, NY area.

The following day we passed through the hills of New York and Massachusetts making our way to the Boston area staying at the Boston Minuteman Campground in Littleton, MA. It was a lovely campground and a good nights sleep.

Next day we headed to our hub while in Maine. This was the Augusta / Gardiner KOA for the next 4 days. We rented a cabin for our son and had side by side sites.

Finally in Maine

While there we took a day and drove to Acadia National Park. Well worth the drive and could have used another day to see it all. We also took another trip to visit the Portland Headlight and LL Bean. Every where we looked there were trees and wildlife. On a lake while visiting a friend we saw an eagle on its nest and flying.

I hope we can come back for another visit. It was worth the drive.
