Las Vegas – A Family Friendly Anniversary Two Couples

LasVegas Fun-Chism-Trails

My wife and I celebrated an anniversary half that of her parents. Another chance for a trip with the in-laws. My father-in law never thought he would be able to see Hoover Dam. The in-laws also wanted to see Grand Canyon National Park. A year in the planning and a resort as a hub once again. A family friendly visit  to Las Vegas with no casino stops.

The flight arrived in the afternoon and we picked up a rental for the days ahead. We made our way to the resort and explored the area. This included shopping for groceries.

The next day we spent the morning at Red Rock Canyon. The interpretive center provided information and examples about the canyon. We then took the scenic drive with several stops along the way and saw many rock climbers in action among the visitors. The afternoon was spent back at the resort in getting rest before the visits began.

Next day we drove to Hoover Dam and took a tour into the heart of the facility then two hours later we emerged to drive around the dam exploring aspects and views  taking it all in. After leaving the dam, there was a stop at the Lake Mead National Recreation Area where we understood the nature areas surrounding the dam and the many activities available in the area.

From Las Vegas to the Grand Canyon

Next day is a 120 mile journey to Williams, AZ so we catch the train. This is the Grand Canyon Railway which we are in the observation car for the ride to Grand Canyon National Park. At the park we take a bus tour around the top of the canyon. After the bus tour we were lucky and got seated in the El Tovar Dining Room at window table over looking the rim and it was an outstanding meal with an unforgettable view. The return trip will be in the parlor car so my father-in-law can stretch from the day at the canyon and once again mission accomplished.

Next day we took a 60 mile one-way drive to the Valley of Fire State Park. As we left the highway we were not sure what to expect. We discovered rock formations which seem to spring from nowhere. Suddenly we saw a scaffolding which led to petroglyphs on the rocks above us.  We continued driving through the park which had exhibits explaining what were the many aspects of the park. We also met a lizard as we were ready to leave. Yikes! A trip that was well worth the time with sites that will never be forgotten.

The last full day we spent shopping and an unplanned stop at the Mob Museum. My father-in-law provided insights about various jobs and his encounters with teamsters. It proved to be an unexpected ending to a trip of a life-time.

It was a family friendly trip which was the celebration of anniversaries and family lives. Family time well spent!
