As a homeschool family we have taken opportunities to travel. Our youngest daughter had an opportunity to show her pug during her high school years. During her second year showing we received notice that they had ranked 3rd in the country in Rally among pugs nationally. That recognition would occur in San Jose, CA. After discussing we quickly decided to go thinking that we would be able to fly. As we prepared to book the flight we discovered that pug nosed dogs are not allowed to travel on planes. The dog show dilemma begins. So we plan our trip with the green Ford E-150 van, the pug, the yorkie, my wife, my daughter, and I and Marriott Rewards and pet friendly hotels.
National Parks Along the Way
We traveled from Murfreesboro, TN to Kansas City, MO. The next day we drove to Denver, CO with scenic views all the way. After a brief stop at Rocky Mountain National Park, we continued on to Salt Lake City, UT. We passed the salt lake and journeyed through the dessert and stopped briefly to see giant sequoia trees with our next stop at Redding, CA. Next day we got a first look at Giant Redwoods in Redwood National Park on our way to Eureka, CA.
Next day we went into another Redwood forest and then a stop at Point Reyes National Seashore and a night journey in the van on SR 1, Pacific Coast Highway as we approached San Francisco and finally San Jose. We had two down days before the show. We returned with a stop in Bakersfield, CA the first night. Next we drove to Gallup, NM. Finally we returned home. More than 5000 miles in 12 days. It was filled with awesome sights and memories. The Dog Show Dilemma fulfilled a commitment. And no trouble from our Ford van and a Residence Inn almost every night. This trip was pre travel trailer days. How do you travel without a RV and dogs?
