As many of you know we plan family vacations up to a year in advance. On this occasion an EF2 tornado passed through our chosen destination about 5 months prior to the vacation. Branson Missouri bound.
This was our third visit to Branson so we visited an old favorite and explored new opportunities with older children. A stop at Silver Dollar City is the old favorite with a log flume stop to cool off mid day. We made the theme park a staple including the funnel cake conclusion.
New Adventures In Branson Missouri
A new adventure included a hike in the Lake Forest Wilderness Area and stonework steps from 1930s leading down to the lake trail below. There is a picture of 3 of the kids with the other snapping the photo proving they made the 4.4 mile one way journey.
There is no picture of my wife and I as we stopped on a bench about half way and waited for the kids to return.
A second new adventure was to see Kirby Van Burch, Illusionist. As we got tickets we had to sign disclaimers. I figured it was standard for this show. Little did we realize that Larry The Cable Guy was in the house and made an appearance to support tornado recovery. Proof of this still exists as our family appears in an episode of the show.
Some other new adventures included a horse trail ride in the mountains outside of the city. The location had some downed trees, but overall it was nice trail. Well worth the trip. We also went to a local multi-level go-kart track as an unplanned adventure. A source of conversation for the remainder of the vacation.
We found remnants of the tornado and a city working together to recover. We met gracious and welcoming people every step of the way.
